Selfie Hybrid

selfportrait-with-context

During the critique in class, some people were asking me what is the story behind my selfie hybrid because they could tell what I tried to express through this work.

So, here is the story behind…

Before I did this selfie hybrid, I took a long time to think about what kind of thing can express who I am as an artist. I wanted to use something I love to represent me, so I came up with an idea of painting. I love oil paintings and going to museum is my favorite thing to do. I enjoy every minute when I am at there and I alway dream about that my paintings can exhibit in the museum viewed by people one day. So I decided to put myself in a painting which is placed in a exhibition and viewed by people. The painting behind me is painted an Italian Giovanni Paolo called Morden Rome. This is one of my favorite paintings, I like it because I always want to live in a house which is full of paintings hanging on the wall.

I was born and raised up in China but I came to the United States when I was fifteen. I’m not only having a Chinese background but also I can fully understand western cultures. This selfie hybrid is a combination of who I am, what I like and what I dream for.
