PAST x FUTURE

My collection is about the combination of past and future. I don’t like something is completely vintage style or futuristic style in fashion. So I decide to put these two opposite feeling together to create a hybrid style. I take 1920’s fashion style as a representation of vintage fashion. Knickers were the most popular pants for men during that time, I redesign it in a heavy structure but still keep it in baggy style. When I think about futurism that I think about spaceman, so I use space suit as the main element to design the tops in my collection. The pattern I will use on my design is irregular lines in blue. The lines are not in same direction and they create geometric shapes when they are intersected. My target audiences are the male who are around twenty-five to forty-five years old because I think they have ability to show both styles.

Reflection

Futurism fashion is hard to make because it has limits on colors and materials. In the article, titled “Futurism in Fashion” written by Laura Scott, she said ‘For fashion, Futurism meant fabrics, designs, colors and cuts that reflected audacity, movement and speed.’ I agree with this quotation because for futurism style, white and silver are main colors. I think any other colors will not give the same futuristic feeling like white and silver. Also the another way to show futuristic movement are about fabrics and shape of design, like wide arms or geometric shape. In my design I am going to show these elements.
