In this article, “Futurism in Fashion” written by Laura Scott, the writer tells about the history of futurism fashion. In early 20th century, painters and sculptors evoke the movement of Futurism. It leads new art forms, including fashion design. She also gives her own idea about futurism that the idea of futurism challenged designers to develop new styles that expressed the modern world.  Scott mentioned Technology is taking one part of futurism nowadays. High-tech and high-performance fabric is combining with new patterns and metallic surfaces. A lot of cloth can no longer be made by hands. This article helps me to understand the basic knowledge of futurism fashion, and gives me ideas of what elements to show the style in my design.

In this article, “History of Fashion 1920’s – 1930’s” written by Saxony Dudbridge, the writer introduces the history of fashion during period of 1920s to 1930s. The 1920s was a period of vast change, also known as Jazz era. Women were in mid twenties flapper style. Makeup became popular and the hairstyles became shorter. Menswear was classic during the twenties. Suiting was the main outfit. Men liked to wear high waist and narrow shoulders. This article gives me basic ideas about how people dressed up during that time, and I know about how the history affects changed fashion.

In this article, “Futurism” found on website of The Art Story, it gives more details of history of Futurism. Futurism started in the 20th century. The movement appeared on architectures first then transferred to art and fashion. Post-Impressionism was the inspiration of the style to evoke all kinds of sensations. Italian culture inspired futurism. First Futurism painting exhibition were showed in Milan in 1911. Boccioni’s The City Rises, can be considered to be the first Futurist painting. This article helps me to know more about Futurism, and I need to do more research about Italian culture and Italian artists.

The united state became richer than before. It was a roaring period. Understanding the detail of history is important for me to show accurate style of 1920s.

In the article, “Iris van Herpen: Transforming Fashion”, published on website of Grand Rapids Art Museum. It introduces a Dutch fashion designer, Iris van Herpen. She is one of outstanding futuristic designers in the world. She is the first one who used 3-D printed fashion.  She also often uses umbrella ribs and synthetic boat rigging. Herpen is one of my favorite futurism designers that I got a lot inspiration from her about shapes and structure of cloth.

In the article, “1920s Men’s Fashion” published on AmericanHistorama.org, writer illustrates what men liked to wear during 1920s. 1920’s Fashion for Men wore well-tailored pinstriped suits, tuxedos, silk shirts and handkerchiefs, raccoon fur coats, fedora hats, suspenders, bow ties, black patent leather shoes and spats. This article gives me more details about men’s fashion in 1920s, and I know about how was the fashion icon like during that time. Casual styles were adopted for leisure day wear, such as plus-fours, sweaters and knickerbockers.
