1920s FASHION AND FUTURISM FASHION

Fashion in the 1920s had unique style and design for men attire. That vintage fashion of that time ensured that knickers had a heavy structure and the style was buggy thus compelling many gentlemen to buy it. Future of fashion depends on innovation and stiff competition when coming up with unique designs. The fashion designers need to focus on the colors and the material since the futurism fashion is based on the two things to for the collection to make an impact in the market. One has to combine the past fashion of 1920s and the future fashion design and style so as to create a hybrid style. The research will explain the how one can design the hybrid style and the reasons and purpose for creating this unique design. The collection, “Past x Future” will express a new innovation style with provocative futurism and antiquate vintage.

Fashion is the style and design in which clothing appears and elements such as the color, shape material and the appearance of the clothing contributes a lot toward a good fashion. Fashion is an art that changes with time, during the 1920s there was a fashion that comprised of vintage knickers for the men. The vintage fashion of that time ensured that knickers had a heavy structure and the style was buggy thus compelling many gentlemen to buy it. Anyone who owned the knickers was viewed to be a classic and fashionable man. During the early 20th century there was an emergence of a fashion called the futurism fashion and it is believed to have started in Italy. The futurism fashion was very different from the 1920s fashion because it was based on the colors and the material. The futurism fashion became very famous and many people appreciated it since it enabled those wearing it to have easy movement and to move swiftly with great audacity. The 1920s vintage men’s fashion and the futurism fashion had a great impact in the fashion industry.

In the 1920s there was the fashion of knickers, this vintage fashion for the men was so popular during those eras. First there was the golfing knickers which were worn during non-sporting activities then ‘plus fours knickers’ were designed and they replaced the golfing knickers. Later the ‘plus four knickers’ were replaced by the ‘Oxford bags’ that was a kind of knickers with wide legged bottom. These oxford bags were believed to have originated from University of Oxford hence the name oxford. These knickers varied and were designed in a way that they were named with accordance of the inches below the knee. The knickers became the fashion trend of the 1920s and were very attractive because they were worn by many young men and at one time the Prince of Wales wore them during his tours. The fashion of these time was not complicated because they didn’t consider much factors such as the color of the knickers and the fabrics. They were only designed considering factors such as being heaviness so that they lasted long and in a way that they were baggy so as to ensure a good speed of movement. These knickers also did not consider the geometrical shape like the one of the futurism fashion.

The fashion of this 1920s era changed quickly after the World War 1 and most of the men clothes resembled the clothes of the athletes and most clothes were designed with the idea of sporting activities. Iconic stars such as the Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen who were golf stars wore the knickers. They wore the plus fours, plus six and the plus eight and on top they wore sweaters that were believed to have originated from Scotland. Also some sport such as the tennis was famous during that time hence many artist and designers developed fashion clothes that resembled the trousers and sweaters worn by the tennis sport players.

The casual wear of the 1920s and that of the futurism fashion was so different. During these modern days and modern fashion, the casual wear is subject to change. The formal wear of that 1920S era and that of futurism fashion did not vary a lot. During the evenings the men were supposed to wear a black coat and a white shirt and a black trouser, these clothing is similar to the futurism and modern suit. Also most men wore hat and caps which had the same color as the suit so as to match.

According to an article by Laura Scott named Futurism in Fashion, Laura tells how futurism of fashion began and what it was based on and how it faded by the start of world war two. According to Laura the futurism fashion was based on some elements, these elements were the colors, the design, and the fabric. This futurism fashion encouraged many designers to invent new ideas and to come up with unique styles and design therefore encouraging them to rebel from the old fashion to risk so as to create a unique fashion for their customers.

Futurism as a movement is believed to have started way back in the 20th century. One of the futurism fashion founders a guy called Giacomo Balla came up with some guidelines on how to develop this fashion. Balla didn’t appreciate the colors, the design and the style of those days therefore he encouraged the artist to be more aggressive and to use bright colors and to ensure the pattern were bold and geometrical in pattern. Balla emphasized that the design were supposed to be in layers so as to enable one to add more layers or to reduce them so as to come up with a different look. Balla is said to be the founder of futurism fashion because he contributed a lot to the development of this fashion and he also had two collections of fashion. Balla was inspired by the breakthrough of speed in the vehicles therefore he decided to design his clothes in such a way that they enabled the wearer to have easy and quick movement. He achieved this by separating the clothes into different parts and dressing each part with fabric and lines that allowed the easy movement and allowed the skin to have space.

The futurism fashion was later developed by Ernesto Michanelles who designed a suit that was unisex and it was named Tuta meaning that it could be worn by both the men and the women. Balla had earlier tried to design shirts and suits that were based on geometric principles but it was Ernesto who succeeded in developing such kind of suit. This tuta was spacious and attractive and it attracted many buyers hence it become a success for the futurism fashion.

During the 1960s many youths advocated for the fashion to have a new style and to be authentic therefore some designers named Cardin and Andre designed a collection that was similar to that of space men and it expressed the interest of many people wish to travel to space for exploration. Cardin and Andre ensured the color and the material matched with what Balla had advocated for futurism fashion. These clothes were made up of fabric that was synthetic and it had the geometric shape like that advocated by Balla, it had a unique color that was metallic and also white so as to represent the color of future fashion. The fabric of this space like cloth was good that why it was easy for the designers to apply the geometrical pattern on it. This futurism fashion was greatly viewed as a movement where one could use the required colors so as to come up with a unique style and design of clothing. This space like clothing achieved a lot of appreciation from the youth and middle age men and many people bought it therefore the clothing achieved a lot and was a success for the futurism fashion.

The main aim of the futurism fashion development and the 1920s fashion was to ensure the development and the creation of new unique style and design so as to capture the market. Also another aim was to satisfy and meet the market demand from the youth and the middle age generation that appreciated fashion and that were capable of buying those clothing. Each fashion was different from the other due to the different artist and designers of the different era and also the difference in market. The fashion changed gradually from one era to another and it led to the improvement of the fashion design and styles.

The future of fashion need to be well analyzed and all artist and designers of fashion clothing need to ensure they focus on the color, the fabric and the design so as to create something unique and at least authentic. Due to the diversification caused by the different countries and cultures there is need to create an authentic futurism fashion that will trend in all nation of the world and that will unite all nation because fashion is one of the element that can unify people during this modern generation.
