“Fashion does not define. It is instead a term that demands definition”
I agree with this quote because fashion can not be defined as one style or one thing. Fashion is something we deal with everyday. It follows the trend and changes every season. Off-should was everywhere on the streets last summer, but this year, people began to wear pajama pants. Because fashion is such a broad term, designers are not willing to be defined as one type. They want to have their signature styles. For example, Rick Owen use alto wraps to build an architectural look to distinguish his style in Dark Gothic trend.
“Fashion is intensely personal, in the same way that poetry is intensely personal. It is a medium through which personal stories can be told, memories re-lived and future foretold.”
I agree with this quote because I also think that fashion is a way to tell stories. What people chose to wear everyday implicitly tell others what mood they have today or where they are going, even to strangers. When I see a man wearing tie and suit with a computer bag, I can directly know he is going to work. If I see a young woman with a pink lace dress and a pair of high heel that I will guess she is going to a date. As a fashion designer, I put stories and concepts behind my collections. I want people to feel the motions in my designs and empower them in an intangible way.
