Intro to Fashion LP Post #4

Fashion from the Extreme, the culmination of a collaborative effort with the Museum at FIT. This exhibition serve as the first major study to explore the relationship between clothing made for survival in the most inhospitable environments on earth and beyond, and the high fashion and modern wardrobe mainstays it has inspired. The team behind Expedition will share a behind-the-scenes-look into the inspiration for the project from both fashion and exploration perspectives. While it may have influenced high fashion, the discernible purpose behind expedition gear is critical to each mission. Explorers Club Fellow Christine Dennison will discuss her personal experiences in the field and the importance of working with appropriate equipment.

From my point of view, we’re living in a time when the environment really is getting more extreme. Meanwhile, outerwear technology is evolving, and clothes are becoming more functional. But the exhibit also raises a lot of questions about the moment we’re in, as well as where we’re headed in the future.
