Exploring the Digital Media: GIFS and Animation

Class Topic:

Representing time and place in a sequential series of images. Workshop on making GIFS on photoshop. Introduction to after effects.

Assignment:

Make GIFS sequences on photoshop and a 10-second movie on after effects. (Playing with the shapes)

Process:

First:

I started out with something very simple like coloring the page with colors. My basic idea behind the first GIF was to make something falling of the sky similar to the old brick mobile games. So I started with the color light blue on the top and a little darker shade of it on the bottom to differentiate between the sky and the ground. The white patches were made by the brush tool, a dry watercolor brush with about 45 percent of opacity. To bring the follow in it I made a new frame for every addition to the work.

Second:

I was very happy with the first GIF but it seemed a little empty and too simple. So with the second GIF, I wanted to bring the style of the cluster of things onto the screen which slowly started to fill up and then from the middle be taken over by the contrasting subject. Again I decided to start with simple colors and not to make it complicated with a lot of different things but use similar shapes in different sizes and positions.
