For the natural dye project, I decided to do a tote bag by using different kinds of vegetables and maybe fruits for ingredients to dye the clothes. The reason why I decided to focus on a tote bag is that I really want to do something that’s interesting and interacting enough with consumers so that through this process, more people will understand the importance of saving our environment. For my sketches and prototype, I found some pictures from online web sources of dyeing cloth using different kinds of materials and I still trying to think about how can I make this very interesting and innovative for people. I chose letters from the word “Nature” and I put them in different orders, then I organized my design on a tote bag mockup. I think doing those experiments and prototypes will help me to better design my final projects.
I had one idea about connecting the natural dye tote bag idea with some fashion luxurious brands, such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and Prada, etc. Since some of them already were willing to put some effort into saving the environment and try to be as sustainable as they could, I think this might be an interesting idea which promotes more people to pay attention to protecting the nature. Moreover, I think I still need to do some research on how to connect these two ideas and features of the tote bag. I think it’s really important to understand how climate changes and water pollutions are urgent problems in our life. If we don’t do anything now, it will be really hard to keep a clean and safe place for our next generations to live. I really hope that my project will contribute to our society and saving the environment.
