Part III.4&7 of Climate change and cities Reading Reflection

Chapter 4 in section 3 of the article mainly addresses the connection between climate change and urban energy systems. Since more and more people start to be aware of climate changes and environmental issues. Different countries have strategies for solving the problem. However, the author points out that in some cases, cities are seeking ways to reduce pollution from local energy use, while some of the developing countries still put their focus on economic development. These countries tend to focus on “improve access to modern energy services to reduce poverty” instead of caring about climate change and protecting the environment. Chapter 7 in section 3 talks about climate change and human health. We understand how climate change is an urgent environmental issue that we have to do something to improve the circumstances. In fact, there are people who already suffered from severe environmental situations. This chapter made me think about some of the parts of China still remained low quality of a healthy life because of pollution. According to the United Nations, the world’s population will grow from today’s 7.5 billion people to 10 billion in 2050. And as natural resources like farmland and water become scarce, living in a safe environment will become an even greater challenge.
