I’ll be going the route of making myself look like the artist in the eyes of the designer.
The artists that I would be interested in taking on the appearances of are
- Grayson Perry
- Huang Yong Ping
- David Hockney
All 3 have appearances that are incredibly unique, identities that correlate almost perfectly with the art that they create. I am however, leaning heavily towards Grayson Perry; the make-up, the personality and the flair all seems incredibly fun to try to capture in a photograph.
The designers whose shoes I would like I to put myself into are
- Stefan Cooke
- Yuhan Wang
- Issey Miyake
Naturally, all 3 create narratives that I thoroughly enjoy. A story is carried forth through the collections, especially Stefan Cooke and Yu Han Wang; both of whom have shown with Fashion East.
Grayson Perry.
Though I had pulled up David Hockney and Huang Yong Ping, Grayson Perry was always going to be the artist that I would be using for this project. While I do adore his work, in particular the tapestries, his appearances on TV, film, videos were what first introduced me to him and what made me so enamoured by his person. The colourful, visual make up and outfits and more importantly – the ebullient personality.
Stefan Cooke
Stefan Cooke is a young British Designer/Design Duo, run by partners Stefan Cooke and Jake Burt. They’ve shown on Fashion East and MAN and have shown 2 past solo collections. I was introduced to Cooke’s work when 1Granary did a piece on his MA collection at CSM, it was absolutely brilliant; “Cooke’s graduate collection simply took inspiration from normal everyday items of clothing, pieces that you’d find gathering dust in an average male wardrobe or for sale in any charity shop. “I chose clothes which have been reproduced so many times that there is no design in them anymore.””- 1Granary. Ever since then, I’ve followed his/their journey and the garments truly do speak for themselves.
