Second Filed trip-SoHo

For the second filed trip, we went to few different stores in SoHo to see and learn how they use different materials inside of their shop. We went to visited four stores total, they are: Prada store, Apple store and Camper store. It was a great trip because it is a good opportunity to study how does the material placed in the store and their use purpose within the whole design. There are two stores that made my very impressive they are: first, the Apple store and second: the Camper store.

In the Apple store, first thing pop up into my eyes is the staircase, the sides of the stairs are made from a zigzagging yet continuous, seam-free piece of glass, each stringer is made from five sheets laminated together, these are impossibly huge and beautiful. with the opening glass skylight, and the glass staircase, the combination made the whole store very spacious and full of futuristic feeling, also since glass has really good light-admitting quality, it made the space very bright. The designer used aluminum columns with anodized paint and stone flooring to match the whole design concept, each elements coordinate with each other and create a prefect balance for the atmosphere of the Apple store.

For the Camper store, lots composite wood element are used in the design and many display cases embedded in the wall, to create space for each pair of shoes, the shoe display arranged in a 45-degree angle in plan view behind the partition. those display wood cases are made from a composite material composed largely of recycled wood and paper. Also I really like the corrugated metal ceiling that is red on one side and white on the other, you can see different views on the ceiling while you are in different angle looking up, very clever design.
