Field trip in west village

For this field trip, we basically went to west village, around NYU area, we went to visit NYU’s library, two Aesop store and one shoe shore.

Start from Elmer Holmes Bobet Library

The outside red stone is from MA, inside interior laser cut copper screen is add on 2002 to prevent student from suicide. The Bobst Pixel Veil addresses dual design challenges: the creation of a secure yet visually porous membrane that is aesthetically compatible with the atrium designed by Philip Johnson in 1968. The Pixel Veil consists of laser-cut aluminum panels and vertical supports painted to match the existing bronze handrail. Each laser-cut panel is inscribed with a perforated pattern – the Pixel Matrix – composed using an underlying 4” grid whose spacing aligns with the vertical stanchions of the original railings while also complying with ADA building codes

The shoe shore

The design of show shore is really interesting, not only look good but also very novelty and functional. lots plywood using in the store, like the whole store is basic on one big wood structure, and the designer placed mirror behind of the wood structure, to make the whole space look enlarge.

Aesop store:

It is the Aesop store on Bleecker Street, In this little gem of a shop the designers of Melbourne-based March Studio where inspired by the neighborhood’s bohemian past, creating a warm and intimate interior using wooden wall paneling, gorgeous brass details and a leather floor. I especially loving the Louis Poulsen pendant light and the huge brass sink.

It is the Aesop store on 60 University Pl

located in greenwich village, aesop university place is defined by a series of horizontal oak shelves that overlap and frame an industrial felt surface beyond. The process of design began with a system of horizontal shelves stacked vertically from floor to ceiling. through a process of subtraction and shifting, individual shelves were playfully aligned and misaligned. This space references terrazzo, oak and industrial felt in its design. The store’s sink was salvaged from bethlehem steel’s 140-year-old plant in pennsylvania.
