Today we welcomed our new project in the Module “Peer to Peer”. I’m working with J to create a mugshot and a artifact of an Avatar.

In class, we got to interview some questions in order to get to know each other. Afterwards, we brainstormed two ideas of an Avatar who’s put in prison.
- A chicken covered with cilantro. (We found out our most hated food are cilantro and chicken skins)
- An invisible teen smoking hookah. (J said she has the super power of being invisible. And my best memory of an afternoon was smoking hookah with my best friend, we were saying good-bye as I was leaving Shanghai.)
After discussion, we are not sure if we are able to take photos of smoking hookah since the smoking age here is 21.
As the idea of mugshot indicates something illegal, and halloween is approaching, I went online and searched for some urban legends to read.

I didn’t get any inspirations from the urban legends I read yesterday. Anyways, today at the gym, I saw a janitor while I was doing cardio on the treadmill. He was wearing a t-shirt that says “Staff”. 
Automatically, I thought to myself, “He works here”. Then it just clicked to me: who knows? Just because he’s mopping the floor and he happens to wear a t-shirt that says “staff”? Anyone could wear a shirt like that, pretend to be cleaning at the gym and they will be acknowledged as a janitor spontaneously by people. Maybe by doing so, he/she can commit several crimes easily.
I wanna think of some things for a fake janitor to steal at a gym:
- Phones
- towels
- people’s muscles
- people’s strength
- people’s motivation

I met with J in class today and decided to take on our original Ideas. We are going to create an invisible girl and tell her story.
These are the ideas that will be presented in the photo and further explained through narrative.

Today I went to J’s apartment to shoot.
I picked up some chicken breast and white poster paper my way there.
We first drew the classic mugshot “height” background
And we made the height pretty short because our avatar is a girl in her early teens
After that, we took some photos of J’s front face and profile on a white background so it’s easier to photoshop. We also googled some sunglasses with pink hearts.
To make sure our avatar looks invisible, we poked holes on the poster paper
and stick my wrist and arm through it like so
As a final product, we combined my hands and J’s hair.

For the artifact, I thought of creating a piece of preserved evidence of Diamond Rich’s attempt to assemble stolen muscles and turning them for her own use.
So again, I went and bought poultry, chicken tenders this time
I took out a ziplock bag and wrote on it with sharpie
Then I chose the chicken pieces that look most like muscles and took out thread
I started sewing them together
It’s way easier than I thought, the poultry was not loose so it’s very convenient to sew
And……done
I left the needle in just so it looks more like a real evidence
