Multiple Perspectives BOOK Process

Links for final work can be found at the bottom of this post 🙂

This project started in an extremely interesting and friendly way —— introduction to bookmaking. I must say I learned a lot of possibilities about how a book can be made. I loved how we got to create and how fast time has passed in that studio class

Today my group and I had a meeting discussing where and how this project is going to begin.

We chose to explore Chelsea and agreed to walk throw 4 different places of chelsea to find inspirations. In order to show the idea of multiple perspectives, we decided to visit each place in a group of two. Also, we will mainly focus on two senses: touch and scent.

Can’t wait till Saturday!

Today Eliana, Rosa, Martha and I met in front of the UC and walked to Chelsea to get inspiration for our book. Upon arrival, we decided to cancel viewing graffiti, since they are not all in one place and too varied. First place we went is Chelsea Market, despite the fact that it is as crowded as China, we found a lot of interesting mixtures of textures. Wood, weaving, steel webs, bricks, dried leaves, patterned metals, neon lights……..and it definitely set our book color into a themed bronze tone.

Next, we went to the High Line and saw a very different view

“PLANTING DESIGN

The High Line’s planting design is inspired by the self-seeded landscape that grew on the out-of-use elevated rail tracks during the 25 years after trains stopped running. The species of perennials, grasses, shrubs and trees were chosen for their hardiness, sustainability, and textural and color variation, with a focus on native species. Many of the species that originally grew on the High Line’s rail bed are incorporated into the park’s landscape.”

After that, we went to Paper Source and picked out some wonderful papers and big chunk of gold glitters. I’m really good at selecting things like this to match a certain mood. Some of them are not photographed.

Today we got a little time working in class with our groups. We spent most of the time designing the layout and started cutting and glueing

I like that all four copies are different.

Rosa booked a conference room for us for 2 hours today. However it is pretty hard to work within a group and coordinating everyone’s ideas. But I have really amazing group mates who are not only creative but also know how to communicate. We had a great time working together. We are nowhere near the finish line. This is starting to drive us insane

I worked with a new media—– Aluminum foil for the book covers today. The font was inspired by this building:

I carved on the sheets with a wooden stick

Working with this group has been my greatest pleasure. Everyone was so into it although we were all very worn out during the week. But we were still able to work 6 hours straight on a Saturday and got this project done.

We had an original plan, but made a million changes.

I was responsible for making pages that represents the amazing textures inside of the Chelsea Market
