REFLECTIVE ESSAY:

I never imagined a lined dress would take so much time to be made. Making the pattern was the easy part for me thanks to Genevieve. She helped me transformed the sloper into a princess seam dress and made sure it was sized down so it will fit me. After trying on the muslin sample, I was happy that everything fits perfectly the way I want it. Cutting the lining and the shell was also easy. The difficult part for me was putting everything together. First, I made a terrible mistake of attaching the facing onto the lining. This is the first of many times I used a seam ripper during the creation of this dress. Next, after I fixed my mistake, I tried to attach the lining (I should have asked Genevieve how to do it.) but I slowly figured it out. The problem is, every time I finished sewing something, I realized there’s a better way to make it cleaner 2 mins later. EVERY TIME. Therefore my lining at the armhole and neck is not clean finished. And I’m too lazy and defeated to re-do it. Then, what I’m not proud of is everything around my zipper. I tried like 10 times but the machine just refused to work with my invisible zipper foot. After struggling for a long time, I decided to hand sew it and it looked nice. However, when try to attach my lining to the zipper part and sew my center back, it just won’t look right no matter what. I think I might have made a mistake while marking information.  Finally, I get to do the fun part, which is attaching the sheer bottom and the fringe trimming. I changed my trimming last minute from a dense fringe to this less volume one. It was very hard to sew because I guess it wasn’t supposed to be a trimming. .I am very proud of my V neck facing though, it looks pretty clean. I’m also proud that I figured out how to clean finish around the sleeves and the bottom sheer part. I pretty much overlocked everything. Later, I brought the dress home and tried it on. I would give it a 90/100 because there are some mysterious bumps around the side of my hips, otherwise the fit is perfect and I love the style. I can’t wait to do the photo shoot.
