Line/Contour Story

I use lines to communicate information, mostly though vectors. I find them to be the most recognisable symbols to convey a message. Through the use of multiple vectors, I assemble my story,  similar to the way that emoticons are used to show emotions in their general representation. The words that my images trigger help to define the story.

For this drawing, my story is very direct: I chose to draw one of my crystals. This crystal is the mineral Selenite, its organic structure is long, jagged, tapering pillars.   One of its many uses is to catch bad dreams. I am someone who suffers from stress dreams; I placed thumbnail drawings of some of my most common nightmares inside the contour of my vaguely-shaped crystal. I purposely chose the Selenite because of its shape.  I found it useful to imbed the name of the crystal within my drawing, so that the viewer can further consider the healing properties which are attributed to Selenite in particular. I made sure that the lines of the words were straighter lines, to present the information most clearly.  The thumbnails were more subjective components, and so I used more curvature and irregularity to convey this aspect. The separation within the crystal, the definition of the clefts, and the relative size of each section represent how often a particular dream occurs for me. For example, the thumbnail of my teeth falling out is the largest portion of the crystal, since it is my most frequently recurring dream.
