Environmental Portrait: Michelle Rios

Spontaneous Soul

She’s fierce, she’s jolly, she’s wild.

She’s dressed up in her graphic t-shirt and slightly faded jeans, just like a child.

She wears her round, dusty spectacles and looks down at her favourite, Doc Martins.

She drags her chair towards her,

The sound of the chair scraping against the wooden floor.

Right across her, there is a white, well polished desk along with some space for storage,

It has two drawers that consists of clothes, that are stacked in an orderly manner.

There’s a small, electric, brownish lamp,

Which stands in the corner of her desk.

She’s ecstatic, she’s open, she’s courageous.

Above the two drawers, rests her mini, pink, vintage polaroid,

Which she can’t avoid.

She uses it to take photographs of her loved ones,

And she has taken a ton.

Besides the polaroid, lies her essential Kiehl’s face oil on top of a patterned planner,

Which is kept in a pile in one single corner.

Next to the drawers,

There’s a bed in a small corner space,

Which she claims is not enough.

She’s hilarious, she’s humorous, she’s happy.

There’s a window above her bed,

But she’s got no love for Zedd.

Long, off-white coloured curtains attached to the ceiling,

Almost touching the flooring.

The bed, she sleeps on is much smaller than her queen size bed,

Back in her hometown.

There’s a thick mattress on the bed,

Covered with a slightly faded white sheet.

On the edge of the bed, near the window, there’s a pillow,

As soft as her fuzzy soft toy.

She’s cute, she’s adorable, she’s polite.

Her bed is partially covered with a soft, cozy, fluffy blanket,

That keeps her connected with her family.

She’s got her mum, dad, an older brother,

And her bestest friend also known as her sister

Who’s now living in Orlando.

There’s another blanket,

Dark almost grey that she doesn’t like,

So she just uses it,

But as, a room decor.

She’s clean, she’s tidy, she’s bold.

She likes her slippers to be gold.

She loves staying warm and comfortable,

Which is why she has a heater at the end of the bed

Right behind the door.

The wall behind her bed consists of Bob Dylan’s poster,

Aligned with a pin board,

She looks over to the pinboard,

While she lies down on her bed,

And she’s not bored,

Because, the pinboard has three items that she adores.

Mason Michelle’s hat,

A card from her sister,

A polaroid image of the Eiffel Tower,

Which was taken when she arrived in Paris, during the first hour.

She’s simple, she’s funny, she’s imaginative.

She loves watching romantic comedy movies and sipping on her tea in bed,

She’s got the sweetest tooth in her family,

Which is why, she loves eating candies and licking chocolate spread.

She’s devoted to travelling,

The reason why, Paris is 7th on her list.

She loves collecting items from different countries.

Her favourite one yet is jewellery from Mexican artisans,

But the most precious accessory that she owns is a charm bracelet.

She’s creative, she’s decorative, she’s artistic.

Her charm bracelet has various different charms, which are most essential,

As if she’s made them with her potential.

Her passion for art is represented through a paint brush and a palette,

Which almost looks like a mallet.

An Eiffel Tower,

Smaller than a flower.

A Koala representing Australia,

Because that’s one of the countries she’s travelled to.

A bicycle portraying the culture of Amsterdam,

Where she did not find one single tram.

A bird,

Which is a carbon copy of her real bird, back in Mexico.

She keeps these accessories in store,

Just so that they don’t fall on the floor.

She has a closet parted in sections,

So that she can store her collections of her favourite, Bob Dylan.

She keeps her boots at the bottom,

When, it’s almost time for autumn.

She’s happy, she’s vibrant, she’s playful,

She is Michelle Rios, 18 living in Paris,

Who is very grateful.
