Part 2 – Environmental Portrait

For the second part, I chose to remake the necklace but rectify the shape and details of it. The reason why, I chose to reproduce a necklace was because Michelle is really influenced by Mexican artisans who reuse materials and those who believe in sustainable designs. I chose to recycle some materials such as scraps of fabric, toilet paper roll, and thread. I decided to reduce the loops cutout from the toilet paper roll and I attached the 3 different colored threads on 4 loops. I used scraps of fabric as recycled material and twisted each scrap of fabric to make a knot.

Feedback: The materials I used was more resolved. I made use of every material I had and tried to recycle each item. I made good use of the fabric as I made different patterns by twisting, braiding and folding it.

To present this piece of art, I asked Michelle to wear it. The reason why I asked Michelle to wear it so that it looks very personal and presents her interests and passion towards Mexican artisans and the idea behind sustainable design.

If I were to improve this project with endless amount of time and resources, I would create some other accessories that would follow the same patterns and theme as the necklace. To improve the necklace, I would add some toilet paper roll cutouts to enhance the idea of recycling and sustainable design.

Also, I would refine the thread that is holding the main part of the necklace, I would like to refine it so that the person wearing it and in this case, Michelle, she would find it comfortable to wear it for a long time. To make it more enduring and long lasting, I would add some materials to the necklace.
