Part 1 – Remake

For this project, our group (Thalia, Veena, Yiting and myself) decided to focus on presenting an environmental issue that was not only known but also been addressed before by the professionals. We chose to focus on the waste produced in the oceans, seas, rivers and how none of us have done anything to find a solution other than reduce the waste by eliminating plastic from our lives. We chose to build on the idea of Brian Jungen which is to buy a mass produced product to produce this artwork.

As a group, we focused on mass produced product which is a trash bag and we chose to use it as it is mass produced as well as it is made of plastic. After buying the trash bags, we chose to focus on origami with the help of the trash bag. After mind mapping and some discussions, we chose to produce a seagull that is made out of trash bags. We then made triangular pieces of the trash bag by folding it and then we focused on attaching it together. We stuck those triangular pieces with glue gun and tried and tested it out.

We continued the same process until we made the bird. We realised that the bird we made is not very visually looking like a bird and had only one stable side to it.

Feedback: it is small, needs to be remade in a bigger size, show a process to create a stronger project, focus on presenting the bird in another and more consistent manner.
