Part 2 – Remake

A SHIFT IN PERCEPTION

After receiving a handful of feedback, we decided to sit together and keep mind-mapping more ideas and developing on each one of them. We had many ideas, although, there were some that seemed very risky and challenging. Then, we finally picked an idea which happened to be usage of straws to build a pelican’s skeleton. We wanted to stick with using a mass produced product to produce this art piece so that we stuck with the concept and didn’t let the essence of Brain Jungen’s Shapeshifter be lost within our ideas.

This idea seemed quite easy and while we imagined it to be made, it seemed very convenient and easy to make but when we decided to work on it and make it together a a group, we faced many difficulties.

As we were having problems with attaching the straws, we chose to make a prototype using the black straws, which happened to be very successful and helped us a lot. So, we decided to go ahead and separate the skeleton of the pelican into 4 parts and each one of us took on one. As a team we worked well and despite of any differences with giving ideas, we had managed to get through it together.

After the artwork was complete, we thought of hanging it by attaching it with strong strands of wire and attaching that to the ceiling. We managed to do that and happened to complete it in on time. As for the presentation of the art piece, we chose to hang it on the ceiling in a corner space outside our classroom to create an exhibition art piece. We managed to put it right under the light amount of lighting to create the gallery effect.
