Untangled Space

For this project, Irene and I paired up . After learning more about this project, we chose to explore different aspects of virtual reality and how do we connect to these aspects. We came across many different aspects but one of them was the most inspiring one. ‘Future’ is something we always look up to and there has been many stereotypes regarding the near future or the future in 2050s. But, we decided to stick with the idea of future from the past. Back in the days, we used to consider many little elements as part of the future such as flying cars, metallic objects, space, astronauts and many more.

After mind mapping and sketching, we had a couple of ideas. We picked on the idea of making a body vest along with an accessory that will be held by us in one’s hands. We focused on using it to cover our eyes to present the stereotype that is created by our society about the future. We have been blinded by the made up future in contrast to what the future is actually going to be like for us.

The object we created portrays the future from the past. In order to create this object, the materials we chose were different pieces of wood, aluminium foil, zip tags, glue gun and fishing wire. We used these materials to project the idea of future. The key element in our object is the aluminium foil as we believe that it is an element that projects the future as well as the stereotype. We made the body vest to present the robotic aspect of the future that was shown to us through the past.

Lastly, we took the final photos in Palais Royal to show the change in perception of the future and how different angles can affect the perception. The photo taken of the shadow portrays the reflection on the ground which projects what we should see but in fact we look at ourselves in the mirror to see the future that our society showcases.
