Reflections on the overall progress during the semester

At the beginning, this subject was completely new to me. As even the meaning of the actual name integrative studio was unclear, I had difficulties to understand what was required from me. I think that the four projects that I had to approach and developed were a continuous challenge and made me grown in a creative and broader mind sense. The concept of the derive project was difficult to understand, but, than Kathleen gave us various essays to read in order to clearly learn it. This writings were really useful and helped to understand what the teacher was requiring from us. The most useful aspect that was in all four projects is the presentations about various artists that created completely diverse artworks, but all basing themselves on the same concept.

At the start of the semester, I found hard to come up with original ideas that could create an interesting effect for the projects we were asked to do. As progressing through the classes, I felt that, if before I thought that the display of an artwork was not of extreme importance, after I understood that presentation is key to the understanding of a piece. I found the museum visits very interesting and I think that more should be done as I got strong inspirations for my own projects when I went and visited some exhibitions.

From my point of view, the projects that were more challenging to produce, but gave out the best result were the derive and the remake. In the first one we had to work individually so I was happy to bring forward my idea, but I, also, believe that, as it was the first one, the creativity and time spending on it was lower than the other ones. The latest project was created as a group and I think that was really effective and powerful because we discussed the ideas as a group and mix them together in order to remake the artwork in a new and unconventional way. Moreover, the critics were really useful as I could understand what people enjoyed about my project and what was more disliked, so I could make it stronger and more pleasant for the viewers to watch.

By the end of the semester, I think that I grew in confidence and I became a far more creative person, so I strongly believe that the course taken was worth it as it broaden my mind and made me learn various things such as the displaying, the making, getting ideas or, even, understanding new artists that I never came across before.
