“This Changes Everything” Film Reflection

After watching the film “This Changes Everything” that is based on Naomi Klein’s book, I stopped to really think about my surroundings and question our world that we are living in. It is quite fascinating to think during the industrial revolution and even further back in history, our planet was considered a machine, rather than a “Mother.” Klein’s decision to go on a world tour to search for countries, towns and villages let the audience/viewer be exposed to the untold truth of how the industrial companies commit their dirty biddings. On the other hand, the townspeople are fighting to save their land and sacrifice their lives for the sake of nature. In the film, it is said by one of the activists ” we can get evicted by bad behavior, we are not the masters here”, this statement is extremely crucial to absorb and act upon. I personally believe that the government lacks concern for human beings and their social environments; it is as if their actions implement destruction and suffering in impoverished communities.

Bridge Project 2-Deconstructing Identity: Collage

Artist Statement/ Bridge Project 2

Art can be simply considered its form through collaging, to creating an original statement through something that has already been executed. In the process of deconstructing “Identity” through magazine and newspaper images, I formed a rhythmic concept that speaks to the reader without the necessity of using words or phrases. I used the colors black and white and red to symbolize the balance between the perception that it receives from human beings. When you see black, you think it is evil or dark, white represents clarity and light, and red is a symbol for a warning, danger or love and compassion. This collage is supposed to represent the parallel worlds that we are in where lines actually meet. The hands are reaching out for one another to be in touch with the black and white. Eventually, the chaos is intertwined to be one and color is no longer in existence. On the other hand, body image plays a major role in portraying feminine and masculine beauty. I used the position and stroke of hands as the object of play; it speaks a language of its own in a peculiar yet desperate manner. The hand on the right centered is breaking barriers of something that once was censored.

NON-HUMAN

Note to the reader/pedestrian,

I am breathing through the blood red veins and thorns that spike out as the vessel to my existence. Why must you come and violate my kingdom of beauty, my beauty that I share with the world and you? I no longer feel at peace within myself, all I feel is chaos. The granola wrappers around me…the cat food can that is cutting through my feet…Why must you do this to me? Knowing that the garbage/recycling bins were right around the corner of the circled fence. Why must you destroy beautiful things? Aren’t I enough for you?

Sincerely,

Rose
