Anne Final Video

My video was inspired by vintage film clips of my grandmother and her youth. I wanted to capture important moments of her and play with the speed of the video to put emphasis on what is important.

Pudovkin’s 5 Basic Edits: contrast( two opposite scenes), parallelism(change of location and time of two scenes while sharing similar shapes ans color), symbolism( one visual element reference), simultaneity( relation between two independent events), leit motif( visual element or sound to stand for another idea).

These edits helped me create a story line of the idea I wanted to portray and helped to create a powerful effect of sound, imagery and motion in both videos.

Memento Movie Reflection- Time

I thought the movie Momento was interesting because of the chronological order followed from the end until the beginning of the story. The film editing techniques that were used are inspired by the Russian techniques: for instance, contrast, when Leonard was having flashbacks to the scenery of his wife before her unfortunate death; parallelism is used throughout the whole movie shifting from the different locations and the time span of Leonards memory; symbolism is used within the photographs the protagonist had captured to keep in his memory; simultaneity occurs when Leonard is confronted by Teddy that Sammy is not real and and Leonard is creating a false reality to satisfy his own happiness. I thought it was clever to approach the conflict through a mystery to conclude the beginning as the end of the film to answer the viewers confusion.

SOUND-ST MARKS 70’s

ST.MARKS

The sound I captured of Joe Zawinul’s “Arrival to New York” is the chaotic scene of New York. I imagined someone getting off a boat to enter an environment that is under construction. I saw people rushing to places and a lot of movement occurring through the sound.
Sound- I walked around the East Village, St. Marks, and recorded the sound of objects from the pole chains, card/ ambulance, trash bags banging, punching, raindrops, splashing sound of water, and a light switch sound. With the use of simultaneity and duration, I was able to create interesting sound effects that transformed the original form of sound that was recorded. What I learned on Premiere is that you can change the speed duration and make certain sounds low or high. Also, the effects that can be inserted on the right side of the ear to hear rather than the left, vice versa. With this knowledge, I was able to create a successful sound piece that portrays the scenery: Chaos, Drugs, HIV/AIDS, sexuality, gender etc
