Title of Collage: Closeting LGB Teens
Abstract:
We’re used to seeing straight couples everywhere. In movies and tv shows, in advertisements, walking down the street, and anywhere else that you could find a couple. Society has accepted this as a norm and even now when the LGB+ equality movement is so strong, we still see this same norm. By seeing straight couples every and anywhere LGB+ teens don’t get to see how great and normal a queer relationship can be. Even worse than that, LGB+ teens are often forced to hide who they are in order to feel safe. Heteronormativity is incredibly damaging to LGB+ youth and its a problem that needs to be addressed and solved.
