Fabric Manipulation Technique & Application Research

I really like this technique because it reminds me of my design of “Pandora box” (The Beauty Object). The tucking technique forms the repetitive geometric square shapes, which are also the outlook of my beauty object. When I look at this pattern, I wonder what is hidden inside the folds. The pattern feels mysterious and worthy to explore. The lines flow in the pattern like the ocean waves, which in a distance can create a visual illusion that emphasizes its dynamic shapes. I also think of its practical use when I look at this pattern. This pattern will look great if it is put into garment: at the edge of the sleeves and leg openings.

This piece of garment is full of dynamic power. The garment itself, like a living organism, seems to be moving and growing in every millisecond. The powerful shapes and forms are created by countless tucking, gathering and shirring. This dress will not have carried this wild energy if it has not used different kinds of fabric manipulation techniques. The well usage of these creative techniques allow the fabrics to have much more possibilities to extend and subtract in space. The variety of abstract shapes and changing forms light up this garment, and lead it to achieve a new level of beauty—beauty rose from the braveness and the fearless.
