Research theme: Feminism

•Why are interested in this topic?

I’m interested in this topic because I realize the fight for all womankind’s rights is still a unfinished business in the 21st century. As a woman, I celebrate the belief of women equal rights and ability as men. As a fashion designer, I’m always fond of the unisex and oversized design of female clothing, and the popularity of street style brands and hoodies among new generation’s girls and women, such as Vetements, off-white and AntiSocialSocialClub. I want to be able to encourage the voice of Feminism through my work and design. That’s why I’m choosing Feminism as my topic.

•What do you want to learn about this topic?

I want to learn about it in specific cases and details looking at how 21st century’s designers have celebrated Feminism in their previous work. Also, I want to take a look upon the trends nowadays and see how the public shift of the taste reflecting on the growing women power in our society. I wish I can penetrate the surface of all the on-line female garment and see their valuable insides on how they matter and benefit all women.

•Why do you think this topic is important to a designer?

It’s always important for a designer to think of its work’s function and revelation to the his or her society. I want my design to be a protest to the world, a conflicting voice to the social current, and be able to raise public attention and make a difference. Feminism is the idea I really want to celebrate in my future work. It not only reveals my social responsibility as a designer, but also shows my personality and style, celebrating a more powerful and decisive woman image in design.
