Bridge #5

This course has been a trip in both making and writing. It definitely got me out of my comfort zone in both aspects. For the making process, this started with our very first assignment. I had an interactive performance piece that I was going to present to my, at the time, brand new classmates. This was strange experience for me due to the fact that it took the form of a camp activity, something I ran a lot of over the summer. During the critique I was surprised at how well received my art piece was. The whole experience of that first piece opened my eyes just how wide the scope of what could be considered art really is. I never thought that something I did to entertain children could be thought of as an artistic experience.

I got out of my writing comfort zone during our third bridge project. I found a way to express myself and how I was feeling in my fieldnotes. I found comfort and a release in it from a lot of tension I was holding onto. I understand that this was most likely not the intent of the field note assignment but, this is how I chose to approach it and it was really help for me as a person.

Speaking of bridge three. It was not the best project in terms of planning or practice when it came to the studio piece. This was not necessarily my or my group mates’ fault, but the failure of the piece due to the legal issues left a bad taste in my mouth. This made me really want to stick the landing when it came to our fourth bridge project. I decided to go all out with this, I was able to work in what I knew best, character development and creation. I had such a good time with the process of conceptualizing and writing out my character’s world and back story, it was more in depth than I had done for any other character I had made. I had a blast coming up with his look and using the Cintiq to digitize my work. It was a laborious process but I am very happy with the outcome. I am currently enjoying the process of writing my seminar part of the bridge, being able to have full creative freedom and trying to write a compelling and unique story within the world and with the characters I’ve created.
