My personal goal for the Thesis 2 is to get to a point where I can take out my project or a item of it’s documentation and show off a stable, interactive product at that time of showing.
Currently, I have parts of my project, mechanics or aesthetics that I can present to people, but I want to get to the final production stage by the mid point of this thesis class.
- Strengths – My project as it is gets a consistent reaction to whomever I explain it to. They always find it an interesting and quirky idea that they want to experience. I like that they get excited, because it helps motivate me to complete it. The use of the alternative controller, the Leap Motion, is a strong unique aspect of my project, that you get to experience the berry like you actually would with your hands.
- Weakness – My scope was really ambitious, I wanted to touch on every berry I could find and some that were fictional hat appeared in popular games. Focusing on the interaction of the Leap Motion hands and the test berry I used stole time away from actually modelling the berries, half of the whole experience! I have since modeled a Strawberry, but I might have to make the project about a single berry family, or just a project petitioning for the Strawberry to be recognized as a Berry.
- Opportunity – With this project, I can put all of the skills I’ve learned from my past smaller projects in Game Design to the test. It would be my go-to project to clients for interaction design jobs, or animation jobs, or 3D modelling jobs. And I get to make another project about my last name but this time one that more than just myself can relate to.
- Threats – Time management is a killer for me in this project. I have all of these ideas, and I have the skill most times to materialize those ideas, but I often find myself not using my time wisely enough to get those things done. I will try to focus the most on that this semester. Also, the final form of this project is a worry for me. I imagine this displayed in a gallery setting with a projection accompanying it. When pitching it to professors and friends, they envisioned this project in a virtual reality setting which would be cool as well, so I want to make it for both, and that may be a crazy ambitious idea that … I will actually go for.
I would need the most help in the time keeping and music departments. I have started messing around with the sounds and audio for the project but composing a soundtrack per berry versus one overall tune or outsourcing to my musically talented connections is a decision I have to decide on.
The focus of the thesis is to have 3D Berries that you can interact with, and that you can learn about the berries you’re interacting with.
