Studio Project I

This piece is inspired by the triangle form that I commonly used in my old structure. The

triangles that were placed on the old model were flat, so I wanted to created new ones that had

a new space in them. I am a person that is focused on being precise so I wanted to start this

project with the idea of golden ratio. I continued my sketches by researching more about the

form of the sea shell of golden ratio. With this shape, I created an outline for my cubicles. The

reason why the rooms are shaped as triangles is to save space and create a structure that is

more flexible. It is possible to create a rectangular room with two triangles, but it is not possible

to crate a triangle with two rectangles. So, a three walled structure would be more capable of

moving and getting adapted to the space it is placed in.

I will place these study rooms into The Met, into the atrium. The reason why I located it there is

because of the glass roof that enables the space to have natural light throughout the day. Also it

is a wide space that does not have many obstacles like sculptures and art pieces that can get

damaged when the pieces are moved. These structures can be used for meetings or studying so

it would be efficient to have a space like this in a museum this important and wide. In a situation

that I have experienced for one of my classes last year; I had to go to Met very often and gather

information about many sections so I had to spend hours there while I was trying to take notes. It

was very hard to spend hours in every room while I was trying to write. If there was a structure

like this, I would be able to go sit down and write my essay between rooms. In addition, if I

missed anything I would just go upstairs, find the section I need and then go back to my study

room. So I would not have to go back to Met from school after I realise that I have something

missing.

The pieces are made from aluminium and their surfaces are covered with stone, marble texture

to create a design that has a flow with the texture of The Met. They have a locking system so

whenever they are stacked on top of each other, or placed next to next, they are connected.

They can be stacked by the mobile crane that is placed close to the ceiling. It is a system that can

carry the structure so it can be placed on top of the other study rooms. All of them have a wide

entrance and windows that can be used to connect different cubicles so it is possible to rent few

at the same time and create a wider room with them. The seating, shading and tables are

connected with the ground so they are stable in a situation which they are being moved by the

crane. The reason why these pieces are movable is because they can be arranged in a position

that has better lighting, can be placed closer to a different section or to create a conference,

meeting room.
