Core Seminar 1 :Written Intent and Reflection

intent:

These three artworks tie in together to tell a story. For this project, I was trying to experiment with using ballpoint pen and paint being used together. I mixed these two mediums together in order to get more comfortable with painting. The first drawing is a small one that is in a circular shape. I did the circular shape in order to capture them into their own bubble and world. I used a lot of pen in that one and used paint to show some emotion by the drips on the boy`s eye and the girls throat along with the heart that is blurred out with red paint. As I went to my second drawing, I got more comfortable with using paint and used more paint than pen. I also used Georgian text in my drawing to give a little more mystery to the art because if it was English, a lot of people would understand it, but there isa mystery to the majority of the world not knowing Georgian and not knowing what it says. The last piece, I was more comfortable with painting and didn’t use pen in it. My work is about reading the images and connecting the story. Also, looking at the colors. Looking at the brushstrokes such as the girls face and why we can't see the boy`s face, but there are obvious things that we can see such as a sad boy and passionate love in the first one. It relates to the article " Rhetoric of the Image" by Roland Barthes.

Reflection:

I think I did what I intended and are satisfied with the outcome. T here are obvious and hidden messages in the works. I think the feelings I was trying to show come out in the art with the choice of colors. I chose red and blue because in my opinion they are the most powerful colors that get the most emotion out to viewers and think they added onto the effects I wanted.
