Materiality and Assembly – Assignment 1.2

Metal Shutter House 1/30/20

The Girl in the Photo is 5’3″, using her height allowed me to find the height of the ground floor. Using coins in my pocket I was able to figure out the size of the holes in the metal shutters. Using my hand to map the space between them. Finding distance between column I used my footsteps. My shoe is 10 inches.

The Street this building sits on is not flat. There is a slope where the building and ground meet. When going close the the side of the building, you notice that the metal panels have holes in them and it gives the building a layer of transparency. During the day this is more apparent. The metal shutters work like a garage door. This makes the skin of the building retractable. The Architects allowing the user to manipulate the envelope makes this building extremely interesting yet simple.
