1: the Object Lesson

  •  How did researching and making your object change your perspective of the objects and the rest of the things you keep?
    • It gave me such an appreciation for all of the objects I use daily, it also helped me to appreciate the design of the product, aside from, but in addition to how it’s constructed. Why things are made the way they are, with the materials they are made from.
  • What did you enjoy?
    • Learning about how my shoes are put together, also having the final product that I made myself was unbelievably satisfying. I also loved the problem solving I had to do when I was constructing these shoes, I liked having the opportunity to improve and re-route myself.
  • What was challenging? And how did you overcome these challenges?
    • Adapting proper measurements so the shoe fit was difficult for me. But that was a technical issue. Once I worked out how to properly scale the size of rounded shapes/shapes that formed around the back/sides of the shoe then it was all smooth sailing.
  • Based on the feedback, what would you do next? Or what would you

    change?

    • I really wish I had an opportunity to properly learn how these shoes are constructed so I could invest in the right materials and go all out.
  • What other projects inspired you and why?
    • Jude’s thermos cap was inspiring to me. The final product was so petite and beautiful, and her perseverance was admirable. She did not give up once and I really loved that she was able to adjust the way she did. The final piece was absolutely worth it.

After I made my first shoe, these were the notes I took on the adjustments I’d have to make to the second shoe the next time I constructed it.
