3. Mapping Assignment

Mapping Assignment:

With this assignment, we were asked to map a piece of our lives/a piece of ourselves in any capacity.  Keeping that idea in mind I decided to represent my mother and I’s relationship as it has played a particularly large role in the person I am today much more than any literal geography could’ve contributed.

First Iterations:

These were my first iterations but with some guiding advice, I realized that they did little to suggest any type of actual geography and I changed courses consequently.

Second/Final Iteration:

This is my final iteration which still features aspects of my mothers and I’s relationship but also incorporates more, literal, “map-esque” traits like state names, county lines, bodies of water, a scale key, and so on. My mom and I collaboratively chose the state names and I left the one representative of me untitled as to suggest that I am far from done in my own expansion/development as a “state”. The bodies of water tie the map together as is the case in me and my mom’s actual relationship and the colors used on the map illustrate the different faces of our connection.
