Bike Path

On our journey through Chelsea, it was evident that compared to other areas in Manhattan, there were more trees and vegetation on the sides of the streets. Similarly to all of the city, there was construction taking place. Upon arriving to the Chelsea market, it was interesting to see the shift from a back building to a modern and consumer aimed interior. It felt that it did share some old architectural designs. My group an dI ventured outside of the market to our chosen area of study: the West Side Highway. It wasn’t how I expected it to look, especially due to the fact there were so many stop lights. Personally, I associate highways with a minimal amount of stoplights.

The bike path felt like it was a completely different world. It was solely dedicated to bikers, skateboarders, and roller bladders. Whereas on the Brooklyn Bridge there are two distinct lanes, one for bikers and one for pedestrians. Although no one usually follows those guidelines due to tourists trying to take the perfect image. This bike path next to the West Side highway was completely different from those in the city too. Along the highway, there was a variation of older buildings and newer constructions. In between the Hudson and the highway are the Chelsea Piers. There is a huge contrast between exercise and transportation.
