Sustainable System: Kombucha leather

Notice: Thereโ€™re uncertainties of the water level and the thickness of kombucha leather.

  • The side the box is not perpendicular to the table, so when I use a centimeter ruler to measure it, I mainly depend on estimations.
  • The kombucha leather is almost in the liquid except for the surface layer. The thickness of it is uneven. The liquid is no completely transparent and of dark color, so measuring the thickness of leather also depends on estimation. When I measure it, I measure the thickest part of it.
  • For the first several observations, the growth rate cannot be measured because it has just formed the surface.
  • I move the kombucha from the common room to the drain pipe cupboard in my bathroom, so thereโ€™s a little change in room temperature.
  • The measurement of room temperatures also has uncertainties. I just record the room temperature based on the number shown on the air conditioner control screen.

For the final product, I made a kombucha leather card wallet. This piece of dried kombucha leather is so small that I cannot do larger things. It’s hard to sew because when it is completely dry.
