History of Fashion: Final Paper Topic Choices

Image 1:

This image was taken in the 1980s in Milan, Italy of the “Paninari” boys. The Paninari’s were known for bringing streetwear into the Italian culture. Italy has always been known for luxury fashion whereas the Paninari’s disrupted the industry. They started the trends of rolled ankle jeans, Moncler puffers, Superga sneakers, and Timberland boots to name a few. I found this image to be interesting because I personally love streetwear and follow streetwear trends. I would like to learn about the history of streetwear and I feel the Paninari era is important. This image is my first choice for the final paper topic choices.

This image is of TLC (music group) and it was taken in the 1990s. TLC and several other artists were popular for their streetwear style in the 90s. Brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Champion, Guess, Joe Boxer, and more. The trend of logos, baggy sweats, cropped shirts, and oversized shirts were trends at the time. I found this image interesting because it reflects streetwear just like the first image. Personally, my fashion is influenced by streetwear and I like to follow up on trends in streetwear. I also find this image interesting because I like the aesthetic.

This image is of two French women dressed fashionably sitting at a side street coffee shop in Paris, France. I couldn’t find any background information on this image besides the time period. It was shot sometime in the 1950s. It seems to be during the time when Coco Chanel rose to fame and French fashion started to get influenced by her. This image is personally not one of my favorites as it’s not really a time period of fashion that I am interested in. I chose this image for the aesthetic as I liked the vintage and Parisian look of it.
