Seminar: Reflection on the Class

Within the first four weeks of class, I have learnt about how to properly use the library research and even discovered new features of what is offered to Parsons students. For example, I had no idea that the librarians could help me find sources for my research. Now that I know that this service along with many others are offered, I plan to use them for my paper. Although I don’t find the reading too enticing, “The Craft of Research” has also clarified some issues I was worried about having when we actually began our paper. Even though I like to consider myself good at writing essays having written insane amounts of them in high school, I sometimes have issues with proper citation. Not only this, but I also catch myself being lazy with sources and unwilling to thoroughly read the whole thing, meaning I don’t get as much as I could out of each source. Both of these are definitely something I’d like to improve on, and even just with the citation help and reading tables so far this semester, I can see that I will learn how to move past these problems. I don’t have any specific initial ideas for long-term research, though I hope to look into something to do with biracialism and multi-national families.

Oooh, I like that image. I’m really happy to hear that you’ve learned more about the resources the New School has for your research and that you plan to use them (music to a writing teacher’s ears!). And I’m very interested in helping you find a topic relating to biracialism and/or multi-nationality. I think finding a way to make this broad topic very specific will be important – but there’s a lot to unpack there.
