Self-Timer Final

The final presentation of my project:

The concept of my piece was about exploring the portrayal of time through a collection of memories and in the form of a ‘memory lane’. Therefore for my project, I decided to step outside of my comfort zone and decided to explore UV printing on plexiglass. I wanted to create a layered panel installation where each panel will have a picture that decreases in saturation to show a passage of time through aging pictures. And when you look through the installation through the middle each layer should build up to create a final image- this represents the idea of how we are an accumulation of our memories, it is our memories that makes up who we are today.

Originally, I brainstormed many ideas for the photoshoot, where I could experiment and explore how time can be presented as both dynamic and static. I came up with ideas such as rain or the ocean- where the element of water is uncontrollable and ever-moving like time. However, as a result of difficulties with COVID-19 and the unpredictableness of the weather, I was unable to go through with those ideas. I also thought that combining a bunch of random images of memories would be difficult to create a cohesive installation, hence I decided to take a live photo with the main subject standing still and other people passing by. This shows how time can feel both dynamic and static depending on the situation and how does not stop moving for anyone. In the end, each piece printed out nicely and created an interesting installation, however as I have never printed on plexiglass, the experimentation with opacity made it difficult to see the change in saturation in each panel.

Below are the edited images that were printed on each plexiglass:
