Personal Timelapse

Concept and Idea

For this project, my original idea was to film the process of ice melting as a timelapse and reversing it to show the water constructing into ice. Or to timelapse the melting of watercoloured ice to see the marks it could leave behind on paper.

However, as I began the preparing process, I was not fully sure if I wanted to continue with this idea. When I think of timelapse, I often think of painting timelapse that I would watch on Youtube and I really wanted to recreate one. Thus I decided to combine a painting timelapse into a short ‘Day in my Life’ video.

Process

I filmed everything with my iPhone which made it flexible and easy to control but it would’ve produced better quality shots if I filmed it on a camera and tripod.

The process was straightforward, I filmed some basic activities I do daily and found good locations to place my phone in. I tried to film activities that showed the passing of time effectively.

When filming the painting process, I aimed to shoot it from different angles to capture the process and details better. Since I did not have a tripod either, for some shots, I taped my phone to the wall or my wardrobe door to get the right angle I wanted.

Next, I placed the clips into Premiere Pro to have a rough idea of what the video would look like in the end, which helped me come up with ideas to edit the clips and choose music. Once I had the rough https://vimeo.com/639171161/privacyorder of clips down, I chose my background music- I decided to go with a chill song but had beats in it to match with my clips when editing.

I placed the music in and edited each clip to fit the sound and made sure each clip transition fits with a beat. I also played around with the speed of some clips and faded the music out at the end.
