For my map I decided to investigate the areas of NYC where recreational spots, in particular, theaters, galleries, museums and historical districts, were found the most. I decided to see the relationship between them because as an international student living in NYC for the first time and interested in the art world, I find it amusing how all of these places are located close to one another. In lower Manhattan, historical buildings, museums, galleries and theaters can be found right close to one another; however, as you start heading uptown historical buildings and galleries are not as close to theaters and museums. It could be said that lower Manhattan is the most rich in historical value and arts as many immigrants when first arrived to NY settled down in that area. Furthermore, midtown is condensed with galleries and theaters and not as many historical buildings. This could be due to the fact that many tourists that come to NY enjoy going to Broadway shows, Times Square and museums. All of this can be found in the same area so they can wonder around and find anything they need close to where they are. And last, uptown, close to Central park, we can find a combination of galleries and historical buildings. This is an old classical area of NY and not many entertainment shows are found here to avoid the condensation of tourists. It is interesting to see the combination of these four recreational factors in the different areas of Manhattan. Moreover, outside Manhattan, very few historical buildings, museums, theaters and galleries are found. This could be due to the fact that the other NY boroughs are more residential and not many tourists go visit those areas.
