Constructed Environments Studio BRIDGE 1: Spaces of Freedom, Spaces of Joy – Solidarity Model

Through the idea of solidarity this park performs as a solution for any time, bringing the necessity of public space in an welcoming and political design. The grass filled park on the corner of this urban environment uses a circular stepped path around the park to lead to an organic and peaceful scene of running water, grass, trees, and a quaint wooden bridge.  With limited space, the elongated steps are covered with grass to maximize grass coverage and allow more seating for the public.  In the center of the small pond sitting on the top of the steps stands a powerful statue of three cookie cutter shaped figures holding hands in a circle, in solidarity.  The organic nature of the park leads the visiter in from the urban corner up grass steps to the lushest fields and bridge all suggesting the unity of the public and its people.  Through solidarity the park suggests the connecting of people, and to move forward up the steps to a common goal and dream.  This works as parks have over the years been a meeting ground for numerous organizations and groups to rally in a public space and use there right of freedom. Even in its basic sense, this park will be another area of meeting and relaxation, a social are for the public to enjoy.  The design encourages the visitor to become a user, sit or lay in the grass, admire the trees, or walk along the water or bridge.  We communicated well and had no problem through the process creating a unified presentation.
