Final Typography Work

concrete-jungle-final

While taking the pictures of different buildings around New York City in different perspectives (1- point, 2- point and 3 point perspectives), i felt like i was no longer looking at buildings. I was searching for a certain point of view that would give me a certain the geometric shape that i am looking for. This really was helpful when thinking about how I would interpret the actual perspective aspect into an artistic typographic piece.

Relating to the nostalgic project that i have done about my life back home, and what i miss the most, i decided that i want to make this piece about my new home, New York City. I tried to think hard for different ways in which i could include the essence of NYC into text. The best, yet most cheesy idea that came to mind was the words “Concrete Jungle”. It is a cliche representation of the city, however it is true and it is what i can mostly relate to.

In terms of design, i decided to take the most literal aspect of the both words and design the letters based on the word, making the place very obvious and easy to understand. So for example, the concrete would be drawn with the texture of concrete, while jungle would also look like a jungle with wood (trees) and vines. I decided to do 1 – point perspective where the vanishing point would be on the bottom centre. The letters will be block letters. This puts the work in a bold situation, making the words the focus of the piece. On the bottom of the piece, i decided to add the New York skyline as it is also a very popular and common representation of the city. By combining all aspects, i created a piece in which my new “home” is created in the simples yet most symbolic form.
