Project 3: Biodiversity

For this project, we visited central park in order to explore the environment and the atmosphere around us. We were also asked to collect some soil, leaves… and later experiment with them in order to get a better understanding of biodiversity.

Step 1:

When i visited central park i really enjoyed the atmosphere around nature. Everything was so beautiful. I took several pictures and collected some soil i found on the ground, as well as leaves, twigs, stems and basically anything i could find on the ground.

Step 2:

Even though i was really inspired with Central Park’s environment and the pictures that i took, i ended up losing what i collected in terms of nature. Therefore my group and I decided to re-visit a park, where we would be able to further explore nature, take more pictures and collect more of what was required. We decided to visit the Highline Park.

Step 4: Making

After observing the Highline Park and experimenting with the leaves, i decided that i would want to create something that has both the nature and human effect. I was really inspired by the way the Highline is a man-made park which was originally supposed to be train tracks, and so i wanted to mix something industrial and commercial with nature.
For that reason i thought that creating footsteps, with different types go materials, some from nature and other more industrial, would be the most suitable and yet is it still shows the human effect through the footprint.

Step 5: Reflection

I really enjoyed the making of this project and i think that the outcome of the project really turned out the way i wanted it to. However i believe if i put more time into the process and the observation and experimentation phase, then i would have been able to further enhance my final product.
