Therapeutic Color Experiment

For this task, we were required to create about 4-6 pieces that has to do with therapeutic colors. It was up to us to create these pieces based on what therapeutic color means to us.

At first, looking for inspiration, i found that these type of images were the most relaxing and appealing to look at. The organization and the pastel colors were very therapeutic to look at. For that reason, i thought that i would make similar pieces, with geometric shapes and pastel colors so as my audience would be able to relate to this art as well, in a therapeutic way.

In terms of inspiration, this was the closest i could get to the idea. However while creating these pieces, i realized that there was nothing therapeutic about the process, and for it me, this made a difference. Trying to make the colors perfect and shapes perfect with straight edges was actually frustrating more than it was relaxing. I also wanted to creation of these pieces to make me feel relaxed. For that reason, i decided to experiment further.

This was just an experimentation in order to see the brush strokes along with the colors and how they worked together.

At the end however, i decided to just spill bright colors with white on the canvas, and use a card to just mix it up.

At the end, this is what i come up with. I realized that in some cases it is more therapeutic when there is no order, and sometimes it feels good to look as something chaotic. Not only the over all look of these pieces was therapeutic, but also the process of making them. Being able to freely mix the colors and create the strokes i want was a very relaxing experience for me, and for that reason i believe these artwork are perfect.
