Prototype/Experiments #1

3 New Questions

1.) How can I represent myself using different mediums?

2.) What are the symbols that make up my identity?

3.) How can I represent myself abstractly in a way that is still recognizable?

The design concept of the prototype can be adapted to a fine arts studio making process by testing out smaller, simpler, and less detail versions of the large piece you may have in mind. For example if you had the idea to make a piece on a 18″x12″ sized canvas, you test colors and textures by painting the same image on an 8″x10″ piece of bristol paper. From reading this I learned that even large companies, such as Microsoft, go through the same design processes as small time artists. When making, I tend to make a preliminary sketch with very little detail, then I just sort of wing it as I go along. This idea of drafting all the separate concepts of one idea is new to me instead of just incorporating them into one amalgamated form. It was interesting to me how this method of making can be applied to things that seem so far out of the realm of art or design, like the restaurant.

The question I then chose to answer was: How can I represent myself abstractly in a way that is still recognizable?

This is an abstracted illustration of what I believe to be my most identifying features, using color based symbolism.

This is a collage made up of facial features from magazines I thought vaguely resembled mine. I included Anne Hathaway because last summer, two different drunk girls in the same week told me I looked like her. I also used texts to fill in spots as a graphic element.

I took two selfies, and edited them on photoshop. I expanded my face in the smallest image, and the repeating image is an angle of oneself that is not typically used in selfies.
