Lines that Connect our Past, Present, and Future

For our first Visual Communication:Materiality project, ‘360 Spice’, our group decided to focus on the colors of the cities that we came from. Our collective cities were Nanjing, Maryland, Shanghai, and Los Angeles. We wanted to do this specific installation for our in class presentation because we felt as if the intersections of all the colors from our cities was a way of visualizing our coming together of cultures for not only this project, but in New York.

For our visual pdf document, I really wanted to go into the direction of using vintage/found photos to collage and illustrate our project in a cohesive way. Lines are a huge visual symbol for me and the other projects that I’m involved in, so I wanted to incorporate them into this document as well. I wanted to use the specific colors that we chose to represent our cities for each persons ‘page’ and tell a story. All the lines connect to the next page, and that was a way of once again, showing the interconnections between our cities, and our own past, present, and futures.
