Formal Analysis: Roman Sculpture

This sculpture resembles a male posing as if he was flexing his muscles while self appreciating them. The style of how the sculpture was made implies that it was made by the greeks in Roman culture  presumedly in the early imperial era. The whole sculpture are all intact, all but his right hand and wrist has been broken off. The color of the sculpture is cream, which is made from stone/marble.  The proportions of the sculpture was well executed as well as the aspect of realism.

The male is naked, and is wearing one head band which suggests that the male is an athlete. The toned muscles of the sculpture depicts that the figure is still in his youth. To his side is a tree trunk which shows that the male was outside in nature during the sculpting period.

The gesture of the sculpture suggests that it expresses a confident celebration assuringly after winning some athletic contest. The sculpture’s hip and chest are pointed towards opposite directions, where as the stance of the sculpture shows that it is leaning forward which means that they figure could be moving. The sculpture’s head is tilted down as if the figure was staring at his right hand.
