Space/Materiality: Assignment #2

Ross Lovegrove: Organic design, inspired by nature

During his Ted talk, Ross Lovegrove talks about his career and designing 3D products. He uses everyday products such as water bottles and chairs, and manipulates them so that they are very simplistic but unique in their own ways. He uses nature as his inspiration and uses that in order to design his shape and model of his next product. He also talks about the steps and process and how long it took for everything to come together and work. It helped me realize that everything takes time and that there is a process and that with hard work and dedication, products like Ross Lovegrove’s will happen.

Paola Antonelli: Treat design as art

Paola Antonelli uses real life issues or uses items that people use in their everyday lives and manipulates in ways that people would not expect. For an example, in her safety exhibit, made a pole with security cameras from every angle. She used what people see in society everyday and manipulated them in a way that would make people feel safe in their environment. She also talks about a designer that manipulated gas masks in Israel. She used what she had around her and turned them into a way that would be safer and more comfortable for the consumer that are using them. She focuses on the problems that are going on around her and helps make the product simpler and better for people.

Alice Rawsthorn: Pirates, rebels and other designers

Alice Rawsthron talks about inventors, designers, and people in general that have helped impact the world with their designs or inventions. Some were often not in the right situation where they could execute their products but once doing so, it became life changing for the people they had intended to make the products for.
