Assignment #8 – 3 Ted Talks

Lucy McRae – How can technology transform the human body?

Lucy McRae talks about how technology and the human body combined can make fascinating and intriguing things. She mentioned a pill that if you swallow, your sweat would smell like perfume. I think ideas like these are evolving a lot lately especially since there has been talk about other items similar to this as well. I read an article once that talked about how theres a pill you can take to make poop smell like different fragrance  as well. With ideas like these evolving, the possibilities are endless.

Neil Harbisson – I listen to color

I loved this video. In my opinion it was my favorite because it is something that I have never heard of before. He goes into how he was colorblind his whole life and now he has trained it brain with a piece of technology, to hear color. His brain has been trained to hear all colors, sounds, faces which helps him dream in color and now know what the differences it. That piece of technology is now what he considers a “body part” because he relys on that in everyday life to perceive the different colors. He now makes artwork by listening to different songs and hearing what colors it is. This is absolutely amazing to me and completely alters the human functions to be able to do and hear things that normal people wouldn’t be able to.

Prototype: The Making Of

The artist used something that people struggle to be confident in everyday life, to something unique and amazing. She uses prosthetics and creates them into pieces of artwork that people can actually wear. They creates different ones for different parts of the body, and they can use this to change the look of their look and walk around more confidently. She uses something that is seen and used in everyday life and alters it into pieces that people can wear. She’s a fashion designer, just working with a different fabric, which in this case, is a prosthetic.
